Carol Hageman, Cataloging Librarian at the South Dakota State Library, is the 2006 recipient of the Library Support Staff of the Year Award. Carol has been actively involved in planning and providing professional development opportunities for library support staff. She coordinated the Spring Forums that were held in April, both East River and West River. She also organized the very successful BranchOut 2006 support staff conference which was held this past summer. Her outstanding work for support staff and librarianship in general is highly valued by her colleagues.

Jackie Cornette, manager of the Western Branch of the Watauga County Library in Sugar Grove, North Carolina is the 2007 Library Journal Paraprofessional of the Year. WCL is one of three county library systems that comprise the Appalachian Regional Library (ARL), headquartered in North Wilkesboro.
"Jackie Cornette has been a shining star in ARL since 1998," says Louise Humphrey, ARL director. "Jackie is a leader, a risk taker, and an explorer of uncharted waters"
It is that set of qualities and attitudes, and the really great work she'd done with them, that made Jackie Cornette the LJ Paraprofessional of the Year for 2007. -- LJ March 1, 2007
Winner of the 2005 Outstanding Support Staff Award
The winner of the Library Mosaics' and the Council on Library/Media Technicians' 2005 award for Outstanding Support Staff award is Diane M. Fay, retired supervisor, cataloging department at the Boston Public Library, Boston, Massachusetts. Ms. Fay has been significantly active, locally and nationally, in organizing and promoting library support staff.
Cindy Mielke from the Hilton M. Briggs Library at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota was the 2002 recipient of this award. Congratulations, Cindy!

The Siouxland Libraries, the State Library, and Hilton M. Briggs Library currently have copies of previous programs on DVD and VHS video-tape. If you would like to view any one of these programs or prior years' programs, contact your local library with an Interlibrary Loan request. Check the SDLN catalog for call numbers and locations.
Brookings Area library paraprofessionals held their 10th annual Library Support Staff Day luncheon. The 2008 event was held at the Pizza Ranch in Brookings on Monday, April 14th. A total of 20 library staff from the Brookings Public Library and Briggs Library at SDSU attended and had a wonderful time socializing and networking with their peers. Businesses in the area were very generous and everyone walked away with a wonderful gift.
Everyone had a great time! Thanks to all who helped plan the event!

West River's Spring Forum was Wednesday, March 12th
at the Rapid City Public Library in Rapid City
East River's Spring Forum was held on Friday, March 14th
at the Brookings Public Library in Brookings
Branch Out 2008 will be held at South Dakota State University in Brookings SD on July 18th, 2008.

Branch Out SD 2006 was held July 28th on the campus of Augustana College in Sioux Falls.
Branch Out MN 2007 was held August 7-9, 2007 at Saint Cloud University in Saint Cloud Minnesota.
