Support Staff Section
By-Laws
HISTORY:
On July 13, 1996, signatures on a petition were submitted to the Executive
Board for the formation of a Library Support Staff Section. An organization was
held at the SD Library Association conference in Spearfish on October 11, 1996
to select facilitators for the section until the by-laws were submitted and
approved. The by-laws were submitted and approved by the Executive Board at the
October 1, 1997 meeting. A ballot was issued in February, 1998, for approval by
the general membership.
GENERAL:
- Purpose
- To enhance the professional image and status of South Dakota’s
library support staff.
- To further their professional growth through encouraging
participation of support staff in library associations, conferences, and
continuing education.
- To provide a network for communication to our members and the
profession on library support staff issues and trends.
- To network and cooperate with library organizations on local, state,
national and international levels.
- Membership
- Membership shall be open to all members in good standing of the
Association.
- Anyone interested in support staff issues, bit is not a member of
SDLA, may attend meetings, but may not vote of hold office.
- Members of the section shall be eligible to vote at its business
meetings and hold office.
- Meetings.
- The annual business meeting shall be held at the time and place of
the annual SDLA meeting.
OFFICERS:
- The Section’s officers are Chairperson, Vice-Chair, and Secretary.
- Election is held at the annual Section meeting, during the SDLA
convention, with the term of office beginning at the close of the annual
convention.
- Term of office is for one year. Officers may serve two terms.
- Chairperson
- The Chairperson shall prepare agendas for and preside at all
meetings.
- The Chairperson shall represent the Section on the Executive Board
by attending and participating in meetings throughout the year. Shall
recommend to the Board such measures considered desirable to further the
objectives and broaden the effectiveness of the Section. Shall submit a
yearly budget request for the Section.
- The Vice-Chairperson shall assist the Chairperson in the performance
of the duties of that office; shall assume the duties and obligations of
the Chairperson in the event of the absence or withdrawal of the
Chairperson.
- The Secretary shall record the minutes of all meetings and maintain
Section records, shall receive a list of all members, and prepare
correspondence as assigned by the Chairperson.
