Finding Fiction |

|
When you go to public libraries and bookstores you often find fiction separated on the shelves by category, such as mysteries, science fiction, and westerns. At Briggs Library we use the Library of Congress Classification System to determine where our books are shelved. In this system creative works of fiction are interfiled with nonfiction books of criticism and biography. This is a facile system suitable for an academic library with a large collection. However, it makes finding fiction by browsing a little more challenging. The chart below shows some of the main classification areas where you will find fiction. These books are located on the upper level of the library.
*Author’s works are included in the time span when the author’s writing prospered. |
