The following databases and paper indexing and abstracting publications may be used to locate articles relevant to dairy science in journals, magazines, conference proceedings, books, and other sources.  Contact a librarian (688-5570 or 800-786-2038) for more information or if off-campus access is denied to a current SDSU student, faculty member, or staff member.

AGRICOLA. 1970+ (Also accessible via the National Agricultural Library at www.nalusda.gov). This index, also known as the Bibliography of Agriculture, is published by the National Agricultural Library. It is an extremely comprehensive guide to scholarly information on all agricultural topics. The NAL Agricultural Thesaurus lists terms that are used to index agricultural resources. Older agricultural literature can be identified using the paper volumes of the Bibliography of Agriculture (1942-1969) shelved on the main floor at Indexes 630.35061 .Un3.01.

Biological Abstracts. 2000+ Comprehensive index to world literature in the biological sciences. Older agricultural literature can be identified using the paper volumes of Biological Abstracts (1926-1999) shelved on the main floor at Abstracts 570.5 B52 and on the lower level at 570.5 B52.

Biological Sciences Database. 1982+ From Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, this interdisciplinary database offering abstracts and citations to biological journal literature.

Cab Abstracts. 1984+  This database covers the subject of agriculture in the broadest sense including topics of interest to animal and range sciences.

Conference Papers Index. 1982+ Provides citations to papers and poster sessions presented at major scientific meetings around the world.

Current Contents.  1995+ Current awareness source that contains tables of contents of the latest journal issues with keyword index.

Dissertation Abstracts International. Provides indexing for over 1,500,000 U.S., Canadian, British, and other European dissertations and thesis. Coverage is from 1861 to the present. Abstracts for dissertations have been included since 1980 and for theses since 1988.

EBSCOhost - MegaFILE. A multi-disciplinary full text database containing full text for nearly 12,000 publications and indexing for over 16,000 publications. This scholarly collection offers information in nearly every area of academic study including: social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, physics, chemistry, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, ethnic studies, and many more.

Food Science and Technology Abstracts. 1969+ (Abstracts 664.05 .F739) This serial abstracts articles, information from patents, books, conference proceedings, legislative papers, etc., devoted to food science, food technology, and human nutrition.

MarciveWeb DOCS. 1976+ Search for U.S. Government Publications from July 1976 to the present.

Medline.  1983+ (Also accessible via the National Library of Medicine at www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed) Also known as Index Medicus, this comprehensive index to the world's medical literature is published by the National Library of Medicine. A print version covering the years 1945 to 1982 is shelved with the government documents on the lower level of the library.

ProQuest. A collection of bibliographic and full-text databases that cover a wide variety of disciplines. The Business Module and Health Module may be of particular interest/use. Modules may be searched together or individually.

Science Citation Index. 1968-2002  (Library Workstation, 1991-2002 or Abstracts 016.5.Sci27, 1968-1990) A multidisciplinary index to scientific literature, with access by title keywords, authors, cited references, and other methods.

Zoological Record.  1915-2001  (Abstracts 016.59.Zo75) Comprehensive index to worldwide zoological publications.  27 separate sections by animal group, i.e. mammalia, insecta, etc.

Web of Science. 1992+  Provides access to Science Citation Index.  This multidisciplinary database provides access to scientific literature, with access by title keywords, authors, cited references, and other methods. Science Citation Index is available in print for the years 1968 to 1990  (Abstracts 016.5.Sci27, 1968-1990).
