The following databases and paper indexing and abstracting publications may be used to locate articles relevant to animal science in journals, magazines, conference proceedings, books, and other sources.  Contact a librarian (688-5570 or 800-786-2038) for more information or if off-campus access is denied to a current SDSU student, faculty member, or staff member.

AGRICOLA. 1970+ (Also accessible via the National Agricultural Library at www.nalusda.gov. This index, also known as the Bibliography of Agriculture, is published by the National Agricultural Library. It is an extremely comprehensive guide to scholarly information on all agricultural topics. The NAL Agricultural Thesaurus lists terms that are used to index agricultural resources. Older agricultural literature can be identified using the paper volumes of the Bibliography of Agriculture (1942-1969) shelved on the main floor at Indexes 630.35061 .Un3.01.

Biological Sciences Database. 1982+ From Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, this interdisciplinary database offering abstracts and citations to biological journal literature.

BIOSIS Previews. 1926+ The world's most comprehensive reference database for life science research. Access to this resource from 1996 to the present is also available via Biological Abstracts.

Cab Abstracts. 1990+  This database covers the subject of agriculture in the broadest sense including topics of interest to animal and range sciences. The database is comprised of records that are also collected into 50 printed abstract journals published by CABI INTERNATIONAL.

Conference Papers Index. 1982+ Provides citations to papers and poster sessions presented at major scientific meetings around the world.

Current Contents.  1993+ Current awareness source that contains tables of contents of the latest journal issues with keyword index.

Dissertation Abstracts International. 1861+ Provides indexing for over 1,500,000 U.S., Canadian, British, and other European dissertations and theses. Abstracts for dissertations have been included since 1980 and for theses since 1988.

EBSCO MegaFILE. A multi-disciplinary database providing full text for nearly 12,000 total publications and indexing & abstracting for more than 16,000 publications. Coverage spans every area of academic study and general interest subject area and offers information dating as far back as the 1800s. In addition, the database contains more than 84,000 biographies, 86,000 primary source documents, 10,000 company profiles and an image collection of more than 107,000 photos, maps and flags. MegaFILE is comprised of EBSCO’s Academic Search Premier, Business Source Premier, MasterFILE Premier and Regional Business News databases. This database is updated daily on EBSCOhost.

MarciveWeb DOCS. 1976+ Search for U.S. Government Publications from July 1976 to the present.

Medline. 1983+ (Also accessible as PubMed via the National Library of Medicine). This comprehensive index to the world's medical literature is published by the National Library of Medicine. A print version covering the years 1945 to 1982 is shelved with the government documents on the lower level of the library.

Web of Science. 1992+ This resource provides electronic access to both Science Citation Index (1992+) and Social Sciences Citation Index (2001+). This resource can be searched in a conventional author-subject manner, or by cited author or cited paper. Available in paper from 1965-1990 (Indexes/Abstracts 016.5 .Sci27).
