Instructional Services For Faculty

Library instruction at Hilton M. Briggs Library is one of the most important services provided by the library. Each year, thousands of South Dakota State University students, faculty and staff receive some type of formal library instruction at Briggs Library. As part of the instruction program, librarians at Briggs Library provide many services including:  consultations with faculty members on the design of library assignments; instructing course-integrated sessions on using library resources; providing faculty workshops on library resources; and implementing the information literacy program.

Course-Integrated Sessions

Subject-oriented as well as general library-use class sessions are offered by the librarians for day or night classes upon faculty request. Sessions can be designed to meet the library research requirements of a particular course or to assist with a special library assignment. Librarians attempt to provide students with an understanding of general research concepts presented in conjunction with the specific skills needed to use the various resources available at the library. Librarians also use all instructional sessions to convey a helpful and friendly image to students. It is important that patrons feel comfortable when asking for help or assistance from the library staff.  Librarians are available to consult with the teaching faculty in the preparation of course-specific library assignments.  Request Library Instruction / Course-Integrated Session
