Documents

The Government Documents Department is on your right as you exit the stairwell to the lower level of the library.  South Dakota State University was designated as an official U.S. depository library in 1889 and holds nearly 519,000 federal government publications, as well as some State of South Dakota documents including legislative information.  Materials are received in a variety of formats including paper, microfiche, and electronic (CD-ROM, disk, video, online). These items are arranged according to the Superintendent of Documents classification system (SuDoc).  For help locating government information, visit the Government Documents Office.  For more information, please visit the Government Documents Department.

The lower level also houses the Curriculum Collection (behind the Documents Office)

Photocopy machines are located just behind the Government Documents Office.

Restrooms on the lower level are located directly behind the stairwell.

Bound Periodicals

The bound periodicals (older issues of magazines, journals and other periodicals) begin to your left as you exit the stairwell, and continue along the back half of the lower level.  Periodicals are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification SystemCurrent issues of periodicals are kept in the Reference Room on the Main Level of the Library.

Microforms

Microforms (including Microfiche and Microfilm) are to your right as you exit the stairwell to the lower level of the library.  The ERIC Microfiche collection is located on the North Wall (under the windows) of the lower level.  Items kept on microforms include:  Older issues of magazines, journals, newspapers, documents, etc.  Microform reader/printer machines are located next to the microfiche cases on the lower level.  Printing from the machines costs 10 cents per page, and the reader/printers will accept both change and hobo dough.  For assistance with microforms, please visit the Government Documents Office or the Information Desk.
