What is Consult-a-Librarian?

Consult-a-Librarian is a free, appointment-based, service provided by librarians at Briggs Library to help members of the SDSU community learn to fulfill their information needs.

Consult-a-Librarian will help you:

  • Determine which library databases, indexes, or reference books would be the most useful for information about your topic.
  • Develop a search strategy for specific databases.
  • Learn the ins and outs of specific databases.
  • Raise your information literacy level.
  • Create class assignments that promote the use of library resources and foster information literacy among students.
  • Learn when to use the library, when to use the Internet.
  • Identify and locate relevant information from federal government information publications and web pages.
  • Find out how to get free materials from other libraries worldwide.

Who may use Consult-a-Librarian?

This service is open to all members of the SDSU community, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty members, administrators, and staff members. 

To request this service:

Please request an appointment at least 48 hours prior to the desired appointment date/time.

Consult-a-Librarian provides consultation, advice, and individual instruction regarding information needs and library/information literacy.  Our goal is to help enhance your ability to fulfill your information needs.
