Library Activities
Mr. Hallman served as Interim
Dean of Libraries from January through June 2007. He has chaired
the library's Collections & Connections Committee, which guides the
purchase of materials in all formats including paper and electronic,
for many years. He is a member of the library's Distance Library
Services Committee and the library's Promotion and Tenure Committee.
He also serves as the library's bibliographer and liaison for the
Department of Rural Sociology and the Department of Mechanical
Engineering. In addition he is co-manager of the library's web
site. He has served on many other library committees in the past,
including the Information Literacy Committee, Special Collections
Committee, Publicity Committee, Exhibits Art & Signage Committee,
and others.
University Activities
He has served as a
member of the SDSU General Education Review Leadership Team and the
Information Literacy Subcommittee of the System General Education
Review Leadership Team. In addition, he has served on the Academic
Senate, the Senate Executive Committee, on the Information
Technology Literacy Task Force, the Academic Affairs Committee, and
on many other SDSU committees.
Professional
Activities
Member of the South Dakota
Library Association, the Mountain Plains Library Association, the
American Library Association, and the Association of College and
Research Libraries. He is a member of the Coordinating Committee for
Ask The Librarian - Live, a virtual (chat) reference service staffed
by librarians at Black Hill State University, Dakota State
University, Northern State University, South Dakota School of Mines
and Technology, and SDSU. He is also a member of the South Dakota
Library Network Reference Users Group and served on the OPAC Design
Subcommittee, which worked with SDLN and ExLibris to design the
interface for the state-wide library catalog. He has served on
several SDLA committees including the Awards Committee, the
Membership Committee, and others.
Research Interests
Since 1982, he has
contributed the Criminology and Law Enforcement section for many
editions of Magazines For Libraries. which is now published
by CSA. He also publishes the online publications,
Hutterites: a selected bibliography and
Pennsylvania Railroad: a
selected bibliography of monographic publications.
