Work continues on chimes tower; all stone here May 20. (1929, May 7). The Industrial Collegian, p. 1. ***Briggs Library call number: Microfilm 378.783 SO8.43***
Activity on the site of the new chimes tower has found the campanile rapidly taking form, with pouring of cement for the base at the present occupying the time of the workmen of the Wold-Mark Construction company, of Brookings, contractors. All of the structural steel for the tower has arrived, A.M. Wold said yesterday in commenting on the structure. The Bedford stone which is to adorn the exterior of the structure, will be here about May 20, Mr. Wold said, and the building of the cornerstone at commencement time, June 10, at which time Charles Coughlin, donor, will be here to take part in the ceremony. Four huge steel corner posts have been put in place giving observers some idea of the dimensions of the structure. A gigantic cement mixer, manipulated by steam, churns out scores of barrels of the cement base strengthener a day.
