The program of the laying of the corner stone of the 165-foot campanile under construction on the campus was announced today by President C. W. Pugsley. The event will immediately follow the commencement exercises in the outdoor Coolidge Sylvan theatre Monday evening, June 10, and will be the closing event of commencement week at State College.

The same trowel Calvin Coolidge used to lay the memorial stone in the Coolidge Sylvan theatre 2 years ago will also by employed by Charles Coughlin, when he lays the corner stone for his magnificient [magnificent] gift tower to his alma mater, according to President Pugsley. Mr. Coughlin, a former Carthage boy and now a successful Milwaukee manufacturer, received his degree in electrical engineering from State College exactly 20 years ago.

Material to be placed in a sealed metal box in a recess in the stone will include a copy of the latest State College catalog; copies of the student newspaper, the Industrial Collegian, containing a description and picture of the tower and a story on commencement; information concerning the donor, Mr. Coughlin; and other matter that may be of historical importance in the future.

If necessary because of darkness, a strong floodlight will be turned on the scene of the corner-stone laying. This light will in the future be installed in the campanile to throw its beams from the balcony near the top of the tower to the stage of the Sylvan theatre.

While the audience is still seated in the outdoor theatre, immediately following the granting of degrees to members of the senior class, a short description of the campanile will be given and Mr. Coughlin is expected to deliver a short address. The exercises will then continue at the campanile site.
