The material previously was housed in file cabinets in the Agricultural Engineering Building on the campus of South Dakota State University. Access Restrictions: This collection is open to research without restrictions. Items in this collection do not circulate and may be used in-house only. This collection is housed at an off-site facility. Requests to view this material must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Processing Information: Photocopies were made of reports that were in degrading condition or printed on unsafe paper (i.e. photostat). Also included were two photographs of the Belle Fourche Sugar Refinery. These photographs were removed to the MA Photograph Archives. This collection was processed by Krystal Maras & Crystal J. BACKGROUND NOTE The South Dakota State Climate Office strives to be the main resource for South Dakota climate and weather data. It provides current and historic information for agriculture, industry, education, and the public good. The South Dakota State Climatology Research is a branch of the US Department of Commerce. SCOPE and CONTENTS NOTE This collection is composed of material from 1893 to 2002, including selected data sheets from South Dakota as well as Iowa and Minnesota weather reporting stations. ARRANGEMENT of the RECORDS The SD State Climatology Records consists of material from 1893 to 2002, including selected data sheets from South Dakota as well as Iowa and Minnesota weather reporting stations. Information for the various weather data reporting sheets is obtained from daily observations recorded by volunteers in communities throughout the state. This weather station reports consist of records of precipitation, air temperature, soil temperature, and various other forms of climatological information. The information gathered is varied based on the complexity of the observation equipment based at each station.
