Using the Collections

Using materials in SDSU Archives & Special Collections is different from using materials in the library. For patrons, finding materials and getting what they want will require a few additional steps.  There are certain rules and procedures that must be followed. Using materials housed archives always requires staff assistance.

Finding Material

Most of the books and serials housed in SDSU Archives & Special Collections may be located by browsing the library catalog.  Their location will be noted by ARCHIVES or SD COLLECTION preceding the call number.

Most of the archival and manuscript materials do not have records on the online catalog.  Those that are found on the online catalog are not as complete as our own finding aids.  These finding aids will help patrons identify what they need more precisely. It is usually a good idea for patrons to consult with an Archivist before starting any major project using the archives, as some material may not be found through traditional channels.
