Photograph Collections
This collection includes many photographs from early SDSU, historical photographs from Brookings and South Dakota, and a wide range of photographs from individual manuscript collections.
Images held by SDSU Archives consist of photographs, negatives, slides, lantern slides and digital images (both scanned and born digital). There are two basic categories that images fall into, SDSU photographs and photographs that are part of the university and manuscript collections. All images will eventually be described, placed in archival photo sleeves and entered into the image database. Most images are stored in the photo file cabinets, by category or collection number.

Images of individuals associated with South Dakota State University. Images include alumni, presidents, faculty, staff, and students.
Miscellaneous Photos Collection
Images found here consist of miscellaneous topics that did not fit into other categories. Included are stereocards, displays, and unidentified scenes.
Off-Campus Photo Collection
Images found here consist of subjects not related to South Dakota State University. Included are images of Brookings (including area residents, homes, and businesses), the Governor George Mickelson funeral, and South Dakota scenes.
This portion of the collection contains an estimated 35,000 negatives and photographs varying in subject. Most of the images are of Brookings, South Dakota: downtown businesses, homes, events, schools, people, etc. There is also a considerable amount of images related to towns in Brookings County, South Dakota: Sinai, Elkton, White, Arlington, Bruce. Images of South Dakota State University, ranging in topic from Hobo days to images of campus, can also be found in the collection. Most of the images are negatives, 35mm and 4 x 5. There are also photographs ranging in size and several sheets of slides. These images are arranged numerically by identification number.
