Mission Statement
 

The mission of the South Dakota State University Archives and Hilton M. Briggs Library Special Collections is to:

 

  • Identify, appraise, collect, organize, describe, preserve, make available, and promote the use of:

    • The history and development of South Dakota State University and those individuals and groups involved with it,

    • South Dakota history and life, including materials from South Dakota authors, South Dakotans and South Dakota organizations. 

    • The collection also may include materials related to South Dakota which document the Great Plains, the American Midwest, or North America, as resources allow.

  • Provide facilities for the retention, preservation, servicing, and research use of such materials 

  • Provide information services to both the University and the wider community.

  • Promote the knowledge and understanding of the origins and subsequent development of the programs and goals of South Dakota State University through the use of the archives.
