Conducting research as a distance education student via Briggs Library may seem to be a daunting task. However, many resources are available full text online as well as through our Distance Library services. To begin researching, start on the library home page: http://lib.sdstate.edu.

The library home page provides general information about the library and our services under “About the Library” and under "Services". “Quick Search” provides a way to perform simple searches for books, articles, and magazines /journals.  The links under "Find" provide many tools to indentify and access books and articles from magazines and journals.  These tools include EBSCOhost, ProQuest, LexisNexis, and more than 100 other online resources.  Click on "Books" to search the library catalog and click on "Journals List" to determine whether the library provides access to specific magazines and journals. “Articles and Databases" provides access to over 100 research databases.  The "Research Assistance" links provide information that will help determine which databases would be most helpful, how to use the databases  effectively, and how to cite information sources in a "Works Cited" list.

Articles and Databases
This is an alphabetic list of information databases available through Briggs Library. Databases provide citations to articles, books, theses, dissertations, conference proceedings, and other research literature. In many cases, a database may also provide digital access to articles.

Information Literacy & Research Guide
This guide addresses Goal #7 of the General Education Requirements established by the South Dakota Board of Regents: Goal #7:  Students will recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, organize, critically evaluate, and effectively use information from a variety of sources with intellectual integrity. Students from all South Dakota public universities are required to meet this goal prior to graduation and are tested on five student learning outcomes. These learning outcomes are to be achieved through the curriculum of core university requirements and may be additionally enhanced through library instruction.
