A list of World Wide Web sites that are relevant to the Spanish language is provided below. Also provided is a link to a list of Web search engines and directories that may be used to look for other relevant sites on the Web. Caution: The World Wide Web provides access to much useful information. However, users should carefully evaluate the quality of each Web resource consulted. Not all Web pages are objective, authoritative, or accurate. 

Spanish Literature Online

 

 

Newspapers/Magazines

 

 

The Daily Press - This site also links to various Spanish language newspapers.

 

Dialnet Journals - This site links to over 60 journals in Spanish available for free over the internet. These journals are not typically available for the most recent several years - dates depend on the individual journal.

 

MIT Libraries Spanish Language Newspapers - This site links to Spanish language newspapers from various Spanish speaking countries. Sometimes the full newspaper is not available without a subscription, but there are some of the headline stories free from these sites.

 

Multilingual Books.com - This site has many Spanish language newspapers from Spain, Mexico, Caribbean Islands, Latin America, and South America.

 

Online Newspapers.com - This is a very long list of newspapers. Some of them have English versions available. A few are available only by subscription as noted.

 

Spanish Newspapers and Magazines Online - This site links to magazines as well as newspapers that are available online.

 

Books

 

don Quixote - This site has links to many Spanish language poems and a few novels (such as don Quixote) online.

Gutenberg.org - This is one portion of Project Gutenberg. Project Gutenberg puts many works that are no longer protected by copyright online. The site can be browsed by language and this link takes the user directly to the Spanish list.

Lazarillo De Tormes - This is a downloadable version of So pena de la inquisición Española. The download includes the Spanish and the English.

Spanish Romance - This site links to various Spanish literatures. Going to the "Spanish Language Resources" of the site gives other links of interest such as Spanish names and Spanish recipes (recipes are in Spanish) and even Spanish Jokes.

WESS Iberian Languages - This site offers a selection of Spanish and Portugese sites including links to several full-text electronic book sites.

Movies

 

IMDB - Spanish - This site offers information on Spanish language movies. You can search for a specific movie or browse by an alphabetical list.

 

Learn Spanish Online

 

BusinessSpanish.com - BusinessSpanish.com offers 2 downloadable 10 minute lessons per day in Spanish. The site includes audio. The Spanish focuses on business needs. The site includes a translator and a verb translator. While all these resources are free, you must sign up for the site.

 

StudySpanish.com - This site offers a free set of tools to help you learn Spanish. It includes a "word-a-day" and a random idiom generator.

 

Sueños, World Spanish - From the BBC Languages site, Sueños has 20 lessons based on clips from the TV show of the same name. Each episode has "Key Language", "Key Words", a link to watch or listen to the clip, and read the transcript. An accompanying student workbook and cassettes or CDs are available for purchase.

 

Dictionaries

Freedict.com - English to French or French to English on one screen.

Your Dictionaries.com - This site offers dictionaries in about 300 languages. You can also improve your English by having their word of the day sent to your e-mail by choosing the Today's Word link toward the top of the page.

Directory of French Dictionaries - This site lists various other French dictionaries available online.

WordReference - This dictionary won an award for best web site from the American Library Association in 2007.

Verbs

Conjugation.com - This site from the University of Texas at Austin lists a lot of French verbs with their translations. This list of verbs goes well beyond most French course lists. Each verb is linked to a page that shows its conjugations in 11 tenses. The conjugation page also lists the English meaning and verb type.

Spanish Verbal Essence - This site allows entry of an infinitive and lists ten tenses.

Spanish Verbs - This site offers a long list of regular and irregular verbs. Click on a verb and see the conjugations in nine tenses.

Translation Services

Babelfish - This site translates from English to Spanish or Spanish to English. The site will also translate a web page if you type in the URL. WARNING: Machine translations are only approximate translations!

Free Translation.com - This site offers a free translation service either English to Spanish or Spanish to English. WARNING: Machine translations are only approximate translations! This site will also have a human translate for a fee.

Other Web Sites

Gate2Home - This site is a virtual keyboard that allows the user to convert any keyboard to another language. There is a virtual keyboard on the screen that allows the user to type in another language.
