Nutrition, Food Science Return to Menu The World Wide Web (WWW) can provide access to much useful information. However, users should evaluate the quality of each web site consulted. A list of WWW sites is provided below. Also provided is a link to a list of WWW search engines that can be used to look for sites on the Internet. American Dietetic Association -- Links to nutrition resources, employment information, news, etc. American Society for Nutritional Sciences -- Link to this professional organization in nutrition. Arbor Nutrition Guide -- Sign up for free nutrition updates by email. Also has applied, clinical, and food science links. The Blonz Guide to Nutrition, Food Science and Health -- A compilation of nutrition, food, fitness, and health resources put together by a scientist/journalist, writing on nutrition, foods, health and wellness. Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) -- This FDA site provides reports, guidelines and articles related to food safety and nutrition. The subjects covered include food labeling, food additives, dietary supplements and pesticides. Start here when looking for government resources. The Food Industry Center--A community of scholars that develops and disseminates knowledge and analysis about how food reaches consumers. The Center focuses on how food retailers (grocers, restaurants, and take-out) serve consumers and how they interact with various suppliers in the food distribution channel. Their website includes current full-text articles and reports, food industry surveys, and a link to the Waite Library at the University of Minnesota. Health Tools, Nutrition Tools, Fitness Tools Resource Center -- A collection of nutrition calculators, health calculators, diet, fitness, and exercise calculators; nutrition tools, health tools, diet, fitness, and exercise tools. HealthWorld Online -- Database of hundreds of fully searchable articles for systems of natural medicine and individual complementary therapies and more than 100 health conditions including articles on medical self-care as well as nutritional, herbal, homeopathic and mind/body medicine. International Food Information Council (IFIC) -- Established in 1985 as a non-profit organization sponsored by food and beverage companies, this site provides access to scientifically based information on food and nutrition to journalists, professionals, educators, government officials and consumers. Nutrition.gov -- a comprehensive source of information on nutrition and dietary guidance from multiple government agencies including the new food guide pyramid, current research reports, and dietary guidelines. It serves as a gateway to reliable information on nutrition, healthy eating, physical activity, and food safety for consumers, educators and health professionals.
