Guide to Health, Physical 

Education and Recreation Research

To locate articles in journals, magazines, conference proceedings, books, etc., use the following databases, indexes and abstracts.

Databases

CAB Abstracts. 1984+
The CAB Abstracts database provides international coverage of the literature of agriculture and related areas, including human nutrition and leisure research. Journals, monographs, conferences, books, annual reports, and other sources from more than 100 countries are scanned regularly for inclusion in the CAB Abstracts database. 

ERIC via CSA.

ERIC via Internet
ERIC is the premier national database of educational literature from 1966 to the present. The database includes journal articles and a large number of ERIC documents, which are research reports, conference papers, issue papers, or monographs relevant to most aspects of education.

 

HaPI

Health and Psychosocial Instruments provides access to information on measurement instruments in the health fields, psychosocial sciences, organizational behavior, and library and information science. HAPI assists researchers in finding measures needed for research studies, grant proposals, client/patient assessment, class papers/projects, theses/dissertations, and program evaluation.

 

OregonPDF in Health & Performance

(Formerly Kinesiology Publications and Microform Publications of Human Movement Studies) OregonPDF provides graduate dissertations and theses in areas related to health and performance. Academic areas of interest include biochemistry, biomechanics, dance, exercise physiology, history or philosophy of physical education, kinesiology, motor control, obesity, recreation, sports marketing, sports medicine, sports pedagogy, sports psychology, and tests and measurements. The library also maintains an extensive microfiche collection that may not be included in the online database.
 

Medline and PubMed
From the National Library of Medicine these are the premier bibliographic databases for medical journal literature including sports medicine. Many articles linked full text in PubMed.

Physical Education Index. 1970+
A comprehensive subject index to international publications on Dance, Health, Physical Education, Physical Therapy, Recreation, Sports, and Sports Medicine. Coverage includes biomechanics, kinesiology, coaching, fitness, teaching methods, sport psychology, sport sociology, law, etc. 

PsycINFO. 1887+
This American Psychological Association database provides citations to journal articles, book chapters, and book literature in psychology, as well as psychological aspects of related disciplines, such as sociology, education, anthropology, and others.

Sociological Abstracts. 1963+
The Sociological Abstracts database indexes and provides abstracts for journal articles from sociology and related disciplines. In addition, it covers relevant association papers and PhD and Master's theses.

Completed Research in Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (Lower Level 613.7 C7382) 1959-1992
Index of articles, theses and dissertations that focus on medical, physiological and biomechanical aspects of sport.

Year Book of Sports Medicine (Upper Level RC1200.Y4) 1980, 1982-1996
Provides abstracts of articles from approximately 100 journals in sports medicine.

College Basketball Newspaper Articles Archives

This free online database provides full text newspaper articles about college basketball in more than 50,000 Historical newspaper pages.

Current Contents. 1995+
This multidisciplinary, current awareness resource provides indexing and tables of contents to over 6,000 journals covering a broad range of disciplines. Many clinical and social/behavioral journals are included in this database.

Dissertation Abstracts International.
This resource provides a subject, title, and author guide to over 1.2 million doctoral dissertations and masters theses written since 1861.

    Current Research - SDSU- provides access to the full text (pdf) of recent dissertations and theses completed at SDSU.

 

EBSCO Academic Search Premier

A database that includes peer reviewed journals, Academic Search Premier provides full text access to over 4,600 periodicals some as far back as 1975. Over 8,000 journals are indexed. Full text coverage includes a wide variety of disciplines: biology, chemistry, engineering, humanities physics, psychology, religion, sociology, to name a few.

 

Directory of Open Access Journals

Provides full text access online to articles in journals in a variety of disciplines.

LexisNexis Academic.
Provides online access to full-text and bibliographic information from newspapers, news and business magazines, newsletters, wire services, broadcast transcripts, and biographical sources.

Ovid

Provides full text access to over 250 journals in pharmaceutical, medical and health related journals. Premier databases include EBM Reviews, Books@Ovid, Health and Psychosocial Instriuments, and YourJournals@OvidFullText, .

ProQuest.
This resource provides access to several different bibliographic and full-text databases covering a wide variety of disciplines and topics.

Web of Science

Multidisciplinary database of citations and abstracts from journal literature includes Social Science Citation Index, 2001-present and Science Citation Index Expanded, 1992-present
