National Center for Early Development and Learning

Supported by the U.S. Department of Education's Institute of Educational Services in collaboration  with the University of Virginia and the University of California Los Angeles, the site provides links to research reports and publications for early childhood research focusing on enhancing cognitive, social and emotional development of young children.

OAIster. A project of the University of Michigan Digital Library Production Services, originally funded through a Mellon grant whose goal is to create a collection of free online easily searchable academically-oriented digital resources.

Research & Training Center: On Family Support and Children's Mental Health - Established in 1984 at Portland State University. The center focuses on improving services to families whose children have mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders.

The Families and Work Institute - A national non-profit research, strategic planning, and consulting organization that conducts policy and worksite research on the changing workforce and changing family/personal lives.

Family.com - This site has a magazine format, with articles written by identifiable reporters on subjects such as tutoring, discipline, etc. There are jumps to local parenting publications organized by state, as well as bulletin boards and discussion groups. Emphasis is on general parenting issues and includes family concerns such as taxes, travel and so on.

Family Science Network FAMLYSCI (located at the University of Kentucky Lexington) supports the research and professional activities of family scientists and family researchers around the world.

National Council on Family Relations NCFR is a non-partisan, non-denominational membership organization for family researchers, educators, policy makers.

ChildWelfare.gov formerly the National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect Information

Household Products Database-Health and safety information from the National Library of Medicine for a broad range of products including automotive, pesticides, lawn and garden, personal hygiene, home maintenance, pet care, and arts and crafts.

Kids Health - This site, from Nemours Foundation, offers extensive articles on childhood illness and health issues, and provides information to parents, children and even professionals. The articles are well-written and annotated.

National Children's Study

South Dakota State University has a five year contract with the National Children's Study, the largest research study of the environment's effects on children's health and development. The study will involve over 100,000 children nationwide from before birth until age 21. Federal agency partners include the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Info For Health is the knowledge sharing project for reproductive health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School Public Health. The site includes PopLine as well as other searchable databases reproductive research. PopLine is a searchable database for citations to reproductive health periodical literature.

National Parent Information Network - This provides annotated, categorized information, culled from the massive repository of ERIC, the federally funded Educational Resource Information Center. The NPIN offers news, book reviews, a Parents AskERIC feature, discussions and so on. Emphasis is on professional as well as parental aspects of child development. It contains links to other parent resources.

The National Parenting Center (TNPC) - A large magazine format, with news on medical and behavioral issues in parenting. The site provides advice from a variety of experts in the field of child development. Chat rooms on specific topics are available, as well as a shopping area for related products.

Parent's Place—The Parenting Resource Center on the Web - Parent's Place offers a magazine format with articles on all stages of parenting, a "WebDoctor" feature, chat rooms, book reviews, etc. Products are also offered. This is a user-friendly comfortable site with information from experts and discussion groups for parents.

Parents - Parents.com is the Web site for G+J Publishing's magazines including Parents, Child, McCall's and Family Circle. It is wholly devoted to parenthood issues and includes related content from each of these magazines as well as original news and interactive features.
