Also provided is a link to a list of Web search engines and directories that may be used to look for other relevant sites on the Web. AllYouCanRead.com - This site links to newspapers by country.

Association of Research Libraries German Literature - This page links to web pages for authors, book reviews, journals, web pages, and other resources in German literature.

Broadcast-Live - This site links to newspapers from Germany. There are also links to television and radio news broadcasts in German that can be viewed or listed to over the internet.

Glist.com - This site links to many newspapers.

MIT Newspapers - This site is hosted by MIT and lists freely available newspapers and magazines.

OnlineNewspapers.com - This site links to many German language newspapers.

 

Books

 

Project Gutenberg - This site has electronic texts of books in German that are no longer protected by copyright.

 

Movies

 

IMDB - German - This site offers information on German language movies. You can search for a specific movie or browse by an alphabetical list.

 

Learn German Online

 

Below are some sites that help you learn German online. They all have free services but some may charge for parts of their service.

BBC Languages - German - This site has a tutorial that you can work through using various situations you might encounter on a trip to France. There are audio and visual portions of the site.

German Tutorials - There are 11 chapters of a German tutorial with audio.

ielanguages.com - 101 short lessons in German.

Intro2German.com - This site links to various resources for learning German. Descriptions are in the middle column while most links are on the left.

Dictionaries

English-German Dictionary - This site gives a list of phrases using a word with the translation of the phrases as well as direct definitions.

LEO - This dictionary gives a list of direct matches, vers and verb phrases, phrases and collections, composed entries, and examples.

New English-German Dictionary - This site gives a list of phrases using a word with the translation of the phrases as well as direct definitions.

Your Dictionaries.com - This site offers dictionaries in about 300 languages. You can also improve your English by having their word of the day sent to your e-mail by choosing the Today's Word link toward the top of the page.

Verbs

About.com - German - Individual verbs can be seen as well as a guide for each tense.

CambridgeClarion.org - This site allows the user to type in a verb in German and see several conjugations.

Translation Services

Babelfish - This site translates from English to German or German to English. The site will also translate a web page if you type in the URL. WARNING: Machine translations are only approximate translations!

Free Translation.com - This site offers a free translation service either English to German or German to English. WARNING: Machine translations are only approximate translations! This site will also have a human translate for a fee.

Google translations - This site is powered by Google and allows the user to type a paragraph in any one of several languages and have it translated into another language.

World Lingo - This site translates from English to German or German to English.

 

Other Web Sites

 

Gate2Home - This site is a virtual keyboard that allows the user to convert any keyboard to another language. There is a virtual keyboard on the screen that allows the user to type in another language.
