Digest of Education Statistics-An annual publication providing statistical information covering the broad field of American education from kindergarten through graduate school. Includes number of schools and colleges, teachers, enrollments, finances, Federal funds for education, employment and income of graduates, etc.

Ed Pubs-Free education publications for students, parents, educators, administrators and the general public. Some publications available full-text online.

 

Educational Needs Index-"The Education Needs Index (ENI) is a county-level study of educational, economic, and population pressures that influence educational policy and planning." The searchable site allows comparisons between counties based on a variety of indicators. The Index covers over 3,100 counties in the United States.

 

ERIC via the Web

The premier national database that provides full text articles, indexing and abstracts of educational literature from 1966 to the present. It lists journal articles (EJs)  and ERIC documents (EDs) including research reports, project and technical reports, curriculum guides, and more. 

Exploration in Learning & Instruction: the theory into practice database
Presents a database of fifty major theories on human learning and instruction.

National Center for Early Development and Learning

Supported by the U.S. Department of Education's Institute of Educational Services in collaboration  with the University of Virginia and the University of California Los Angeles, the site provides links to research reports and publications for early childhood research focusing on enhancing cognitive, social and emotional development of young children.

 

National Children's Study

South Dakota State University has a five year contract with the National Children's Study, the largest research study of the environment's effects on children's health and development. The study will involve over 100,000 children nationwide from before birth until age 21. Federal agency partners include the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

National Center for Educational Statistics
The Purpose of the Center is to collect and report "...statistics and information showing the condition and progress of education in the United States and other nations in order to promote and accelerate the improvement of American education... NCES studies cover the entire educational spectrum, providing the facts and figures needed to help policymakers understand the condition of education in the nation today, to give researchers a foundation of data to build upon, and to help teachers and administrators decide on best practices for their schools." Statistics available include published data as: CCD (Common Core of Data); PSS (Private School Survey); NHES (National Household Education Survey); and RCG (Recent College Graduates).

South Dakota Department of Education

Education information resources for administrators, teachers, parents and students including standards, school report cards, certification requirements, educational statistics, and the SD Education Directory.

 

Test Reviews Online

Buros Institute of Mental Measurements provides an online index to general information about over 400 tests and information for finding test reviews. Tests reviewed in Mental Measurements Yearbook are available for purchase. (Free reviews available in the print version of Mental Measurements Yearbook located in Reference BF431.A11 B8m).

U.S. Department of Education
The government maintains an excellent and comprehensive web site on all facets of education in America. Information is provided on the departments' programs, services, publications and products. The site serves as a central resource for information on financial aid, research in education and funding opportunities.
