The following reference sources provide information relevant to communication studies and theatre topics.  They are available the Hilton M. Briggs Library collection.

Reference Books

American Voices: An Encyclopedia of Contemporary Orators (Reference PS408 .A47 2005) 58 essays on recent public figures, including US presidents since 1960 and other well-known figures. Each essay concentrates on one person, providing biographical information, analysis of his or her speeches, excerpts of speeches, a bibliography of primary and secondary sources, and a chronology of key speeches.

An Annotated Dictionary of Technical, Historical, and Stylistic Terms Relating to Theatre and Drama (Reference PN2035 .W48) A resource text of dramaturgical terms.

A Dictionary of Communication and Media Studies (Reference P87.5 .W38) An alphabetical listing of information on current media policy and practice, communication and cultural studies.

A Dictionary of Linguistics and Phonetics (Reference P29 .C65 1997) This is a comprehensive dictionary of linguistics.

Dictionary of the Arts (Reference NX80 .D53 1994) A broad reader's companion to the arts including terms about artistic theory, cinema and theatre.

Encyclopedia of Communication and Information (Reference P87.5 E53 2002) Three
volume set with entries covering eight general topics including careers in the communication and information fields, information science, information technologies, literacy, institutional studies, interpersonal communication, library science, and media effects

Encyclopedia of Rhetoric and Composition: Communication from Ancient Times to the Information Age (Reference PN172 .E53 1996) A one-volume reference work and guide providing an introduction to rhetoric.

Landmark American Speeches (Reference PS662 .L36 2001) Three volume set of famous American speeches from the 17th through the 20th Century.

The Oxford Encyclopedia of Theatre & Performance (Reference PN2035 .O94 2003) Broad in scope and international in coverage this two volume encyclopedia provides short biographies, definitions of theatrical terms, and longer entries for historical and special topics.
