The following databases and paper indexing and abstracting publications may be used to locate articles relevant to Communication Studies and Theatre in journals, magazines, conference proceedings, books, and other sources.  E-mail the SDSU Librarians (688-5570 or 800-786-2038) for more information or if off-campus access is denied to a current SDSU student, faculty member, or staff member..

Arts & Humanities Search.
This citation index references approximately 1,300 of the world's significant arts and humanities journals. 

Academic Search Premier. (EBSCOhost)
Academic Search Premier, designed specifically for academic institutions, is the world's largest scholarly, multi-disciplinary full text database containing full text for more than 4,600 scholarly publications, including more than 3,500 peer-reviewed publications. In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for all 8,040 journals in the collection. This scholarly collection offers information in nearly every area of academic study including: social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, physics, chemistry, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, ethnic studies, and many more. 

CIOS (Communication Institute for Online Scholarship) Journal Index System
Searches the indexes of 21 key communication journals.

Communication Studies: A SAGE Full Text Collection
Includes the full-text of 19 journals published by SAGE and participating societies. Covers such subjects as Interpersonal Communication, Cultural Studies / Intercultural Communication, Business Communication, Organizational / Management Communication, and Communication, and Rhetoric.  Consists of searchable bibliographic records (indexed summaries or abstracts) as well as the complete text of each journal article in PDF format.

Current Contents.
This multidisciplinary, current awareness resource provides indexing and tables of contents to over 6,000 journals covering a broad range of disciplines. 

ERIC (via CSA); ERIC (via the Education Resources Information Center)
ERIC is the premier national bibliographic database of education literature from 1966 to the present.  The database includes journal articles and a large number of ERIC documents, which are research reports, conference papers, issue papers, or monographs.  Relevant information on communication studies and theatre is included.  The Educational Resources Information Center provides free web access to the ERIC Database.

Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe.
Provides online access to full-text and bibliographic information from newspapers, news and business magazines, newsletters, wire services, broadcast transcripts, and biographical sources. 

MLA International Bibliography. 1963+.
This exhaustive resource provides bibliographic access to literary scholarship published throughout the world. It covers literature, language, linguistics, and folklore found in over 3,000 journals and series, as well as in relevant monographs, working papers, proceedings, bibliographies, and other formats. The library has volumes from 1963 to 1992 in paper as well; they are shelved on the library's main floor in the Abstracts & Indexes area (406 M721).

Other Databases, Periodical Indexes and Abstracts

Dissertation Abstracts International.
This resource provides a subject, title, and author guide to over 1.2 million doctoral dissertations and masters theses written since 1861.

Dissertation Abs: Current - SDSU
Provides access to the full text (pdf) of recent dissertations and these completed at SDSU.

Ingenta.
A database indexing the contents of thousands of journals and magazines in a wide range of disciplines including communication studies and theatre.  Full text articles are available for a fee.

PsycINFO (via CSA). 1887+.
This American Psychological Association database covers journal articles, book chapters, and book literature in psychology, as well as psychological aspects of related topics, such as persuasion, interpersonal relations, small groups,  and others. It contains citations with abstracts to journals, books, and book chapters in psychology and the behavioral sciences.

Social Sciences Citation Index. 1997-2002 (CD-ROM), 2001+, (via Web of Science).

A multidisciplinary database covering 1,700 of the most significant social sciences journals in 50 disciplines.  Access this database via Web of Science for citations from 2001 to the present and  the CD-ROM database on a specific workstation in the reference area of the library. Older paper volumes, 1973-1976, 1985-1996, are shelved on the library's main floor in the Abstracts & Indexes area (016.3.So13).

Sociological Abstracts (via CSA). 1963+.
The Sociological Abstracts database indexes and provides abstracts for journal articles from sociology and related topics such as small group interaction, roles, and social movements. In addition, it covers relevant association papers and PhD and Master's theses.  Older journal articles are also covered in the paper Sociological Abstracts shelved on the library's main floor in the Abstracts & Indexes area (305.So15).
