Delivery of Books and Other Circulating
Items
The staff of Hilton M. Briggs Library are pleased to ship books via UPS or
U.S. Mail to the SDSU extended-campus community, i.e., certain individuals who
are affiliated with SDSU, but do not reside in (or make weekly trips to)
the Brookings area. The service supplies books and other circulating
items owned by Briggs Library and those available on loan from other libraries
for educational or professional purposes.
Who May Use This
Service: The following SDSU affiliated individuals are eligible for this
book delivery service, provided they do not reside in (or make weekly
trips to) the Brookings area:
- All current SDSU faculty, staff and currently enrolled
students.
- All former SDSU faculty who hold emeritus status at SDSU.
- South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service staff
- South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station staff
- Nurse preceptors currently working with SDSU nursing students.

Cost: Books and
other circulating items are usually provided free of charge (up to 100 items per
semester, including books, journal articles or other materials). However, you
are responsible for the cost of returning the books and other
loans to the SDSU Library. Occasionally interlibrary loan fees must
be applied to obtain an item from certain out-of-state libraries or other
sources.
Overdue fines are applied for late return of SDSU library materials according
to Briggs Library overdue fine policies and procedures. Overdue fines for
materials obtained via interlibrary loan from other libraries are $1.00 per day.
If an item is lost, the borrower is responsible for the cost of
replacement of the item according to the Briggs Library replacement policies and
procedures. If an interlibrary loan item is lost, the borrower is responsible
for the cost of replacement.
A limit of 100 items per semester will be provided free of charge. Any
requests above the limit of 100 in a single semester will be processed at a cost
of $1.00 per item. For this purpose, the year is divided into three semesters,
the fall semester, spring semester and summer semester. The semesters begin on
the first day of classes and end on the day before classes begin for the
following semester.
Delivery: Books
and other circulating materials are sent via UPS or U.S. Mail to the address
specified by the requester, unless other delivery is arranged.
Time:
Most requests are processed within three working days after we receive them.
Numerous requests submitted by one person will be processed as time permits, so
more than three days may be required for processing. You will be
notified if a request cannot be filled before your specified "Not
Wanted After Date". All attempts to supply the material will stop
after the "Not
Wanted After Date". Short due dates will not speed processing time and will
sometimes result in
failure to obtain materials.
Returning Books and
Other Circulating Materials: Borrowed items must be returned on or before
the due date to avoid overdue fines. This is especially important when items
have been borrowed via interlibrary loan from another library because the fine
for overdue interlibrary loan items is $1.00 per day. The postmark date will be
used as the return date for all overdue items returned via the mail.
A return mailing label is included with each item. We recommend that the
mailing package be saved and used to return the items. Insuring the items and
using the postal service "Library Mail" are also recommended.
Return your books and other circulating items to:
Distance Library Services, Briggs Library, SBL 2115, SDSU, Brookings, SD
57007-1098
LIMITATIONS: Books and other circulating materials available at a public
library located near the requester will not be provided via this service.
Service requests will not be processed for individuals with overdue library
materials, unpaid library fines or unpaid library service fees.
