The World Wide Web (WWW) can provide access to much useful information.  However, users should evaluate the quality of each Internet resource consulted.  A list of WWW sites is provided below.  Also provided is a link to a list of WWW search engines that can be used to search sites on the Internet.

General Political Science Resources

  • CLC Media Policy Program.  To promote political campaigns free of negative attack ads and sound bites.  The site issues briefs on campaigns and links to civic and reform groups.
  • American Civil Liberties Union.
  • American Political Science Association.  Access to one of political science's professional organizations. Information about membership, journals, grants and fellowships.
  • Elections Around the World - Election results from around the world - Parties on the net
    Parliaments on the net - Electoral institutes on the net - Electoral calendar.
  • EmbassyWorld.Com - Links to embassies and consulates of the world, searchable, and alphabetically organized. United Nations Permanent Missions, maps of the world, and an international telephone directory. 
  • Findlaw.  An educational resource site dedicated to the United States Constitution and the U.S. Supreme Court.  Features a guide to historical documents, biographies, and Supreme Court decisions.
  • FirstGov - This web search engine queries U.S. Government and Military Sites, including transactions, information, services, etc.

  • The Forum of Federations - Contains an online library of nearly 1000 free presentations, articles, and papers on Federalism.

  • Freedom Channel.  Nonpartisan commercial venue providing 90-second video clips of statements from presidential, gubernatorial and congressional candidates.

  • International Political Science Association.  Access to international organizations and foreign governments as well as many links to major political science related sites.
  • The National Governor's Association - A bipartisan organization dedicated to developing strategies and initiatives for key issues. 
  • NationalIssues.Com. A non-partisan, issue-oriented research web site.  Presents summary information on each topic as well as a compilation of experts' views on each of the issues.
  • Northwest Area Foundation Regional Indicators Website This site's emphasis is on providing county and state-level social and economic information. Specific indicators in six general categories are now available:  population characteristics; income and poverty; employment; housing; and family and kids.
  • Online Library of Liberty.  Links to free access to hundreds of full-length classic texts which have contributed to our understanding of the nature of individual liberty, limited and constitutional government, and the free market.
  • Policy Agendas Project - this site provides information allowing the user to track national policy agenda changes since World War II.  Datasets include Congressional hearings, statutes, Presidential Executive Orders, Gallup's Most Important Problem Series, and more.
  • Politics Navigator - a listing of web sites related to US politics organized by broad subjects.  To use this site in full, you must first register FREE online at the New York Times on the Web.
  • PollingReport.com. Gives access to timely, high quality cross-section of poll data on topics of national political, economic and sociocultural interest.
  • Presidents of the United States.  Provides basic information about US Presidents.
  • Project Vote Smart.  A national library of factual information on over 13,000 elected offices and candidates for public office --Presidents, Governors, Congress and State Legislatures.
  • SelectSmart.  Users fill in questionnaires to find candidates whose policy statements approximate their views.
  • Senate Roll Call Votes.  Senate "Roll Call Vote" results for the current and several prior Congresses including votes taken today.
  • South Dakota United States Congressional Delegation.  List of contact information for S.D. Senators and Representative.

  • State of South Dakota.  The official website of the State of South Dakota.

  • Thomas. This site provides legislative information including the full text of bills, laws, the Congressional Record, and most committee reports.

  • The United Nations.  Contains multiple resources including documents, maps, links to official Member-State Websites, searchable database, publications information, etc.   (Available in multiple languages.)

  • United Nations - Official Documents.  Free electronic access to many United Nations Documents.

  • United Nations Documentation Research Guide.  This guide is designed for researchers and information professionals new to United Nations documentation. It provides an overview of the various types of documents and publications issued by the Organization (e.g, reports, resolutions, meeting records, sales publications, press releases) and gives guidance on how to work with them.  An excellent starting point for UN research!

  • The United States Conference of Mayors. This site contains policies, updated news information about the Conference of Mayors, a search-this-site option, conference information, events, etc.

  • Washington Post Latest news stories on political races.  Links to candidates' Web sites.  Provides maps of races state-by-state, broken down by district.  Links to state government Web sites.

  • World Statesmen - A database of the leaders of nations, colonies, international and religious organizations, and other polities from 1700.  Including flags, links to maps, constitutions, and national anthems.

  • The World Wide Web Virtual Library:  International Affairs.  Presents over 2000 annotated links in a range of international affairs topics.
