SDSU is a state-supported institution. Our institutional publicity makes a great point of services to the people of the State. For this reason we can not refuse service to any adult resident of South Dakota who takes the trouble to come to us in person. They must be received courteously and given such help as they need in using our facilities. This is, of course, primarily the responsibility of the Reference Department, but every staff member should be prepared to give assistance in the absence of the Reference personnel. Staff members should never hesitate to call upon the Dean or any other senior staff member when problems are encountered.

  1. Anyone may use books in the Library. This includes, of course, out-of-state persons as well as residents.
  2. Any adult resident of South Dakota, age 16 or over, who wishes to borrow books may be issued a library card upon making a formal application at the Circulation Desk. Their borrowing privileges do not include InterLibrary Loan, and are limited to a maximum of 20 items at any time. When receiving a guest card, they should be made aware that Library materials are State property, subject to State laws.

Children of our own faculty members must abide by the same rules. If the parent comes with the child, the parent may borrow materials for the child.

InterLibrary Loan services are restricted to SDSU affiliated users only.
