Information Services
The information desk is the first place to ask for assistance in
locating and using library resources. It is located in the
Reference Area on the main level. Here librarians provide
advice on search strategies as well as instruction and
assistance. The library subscribes to more than 90 online
databases and subscribes to over 8,000 magazines, journals, and
newspapers. Our emphasis is on teaching (and assisting) you to
conduct your own library research. For assistance, contact a
reference librarian at (605) 688-5570. |

Government Documents
Briggs Library collects materials available through the U.S.
Government Depository Library Program and has over 500,000
government publications. Maps, statistical resources, Federal,
State, and City government information are just a few of the
materials available. The staff of the Documents Department
helps identify and locate both Federal and South Dakota State
publications on the Web and in the library's collection. Most
government publications are available for checkout. |

Interlibrary Loan
If we lack what you need, books or photocopies of articles not
owned by Briggs Library may be obtained through the Interlibrary
Loan (ILL) system from other libraries in the state, region, or
beyond. (SDSU students and employees only.) Whenever possible,
materials are obtained from libraries that do not charge for
this service. Sometimes, however, this is not possible, and you
will be charged an agreed-upon fee for the materials you
receive. ILL requests may be made through your ILLiad
interlibrary loan account. Contact a reference librarian for
assistance.

Instructional Services
Library instruction at H.M. Briggs Library is one of the most
important services provided by the library. Each year, more
than 4,000 students, faculty, and staff receive some type of
formal library instruction at Briggs Library. As part of the
instruction program, librarians at Briggs Library provide
course-integrated sessions on using library resources, providing
faculty workshops on library resources, and implementing the
information literacy program. Contact the Library Instruction
Coordinator at (605) 688-5955 to inquire about drop-in classes
or to schedule an instructional session.

Disability Access and Services
The main entrance to the library is accessible by wheelchair. An
elevator in the lobby provides access to the upper and lower
levels. Two of the online catalog workstations in the lobby,
and all of the workstations in the reference area and on the
upper and lower floors, are accessible to wheelchair users. If
physical difficulty in retrieving materials or using reference
resources is encountered, library staff in the Circulation or
Reference Departments will provide assistance as needed. Special
equipment for patrons with visual impairments is available in a
secured room on the upper level of the library. A key for the
room can be checked out from the Circulation Department. |
