Information
Desk
The most important area in
the Reference Room is the Information Desk, staffed by library
faculty. A sign behind the desk gives
current
desk hours. Librarians at the Reference Desk are there to
provide you with assistance and are on duty every day of the week during
Fall and Spring Semesters. Please don't hesitate to ask for help.
Selected Reference books are
kept on the shelves behind the information desk. Please feel free to
go behind the desk and browse these materials.
Interlibrary Loan forms are
also available on the shelves directly behind the information desk.
Use this service when you need an article or book not available at Briggs
Library. In addition,
Interlibrary
Loan forms are available online. For more information on
Interlibrary Loan, see
Interlibrary
Loan Services.

located just beyond the

Computer
Workstations
Directly across from the
Information Desk are more computer workstations. The library has
over 50 public workstations throughout the building, connected to the
Internet. Locate information using the library's online catalog (SDLN
Catalog), surf the Web, or access a host of other electronic
information resources. In the Reference Room, there are several
computers along the South wall that provide access to electronic resources
on CD-ROM.
Also along the South Wall
are the audio/visual materials including videos and DVDs. These
materials are arranged by call number and can be located using the
Library Catalog. The AV equipment, including tape/CD/record players and
TV/VCR machines are located on the West end of the Reference Room. Headphones for the AV equipment may be borrowed
from the
circulation desk free of charge with a valid
ID.

Current
Periodicals
Current
(approximately 1 year) newspapers, popular magazines and journals are
located along the North Wall (perpendicular to the windows) of the
Reference
Room. Notice the popular magazine reading area next to the
cushioned chairs and couches. Current issues of newspapers are
kept in the clear vinyl holders in the first few rows of shelving. A one-month file of most
newspapers is kept on these shelves. Periodicals are arranged according to the
Dewey
Decimal Classification System. Older issues (bound)
of periodicals are located on the
lower level of
the library.
To visit the
next stop on the tour (the upper level) exit the reference room and turn
left to go up the stairwell. Elevator access is located at the end
of the lobby near the circulation/reserve desk.
