Documents
The
Government Documents Department is on your right as you exit the
stairwell on the lower level of the library. South Dakota State University was
designated as an official U.S. depository library in 1889 and holds nearly
573,000 federal government publications. The library also has some State of
South Dakota documents, which include legislative information.
Documents are received in a
variety of formats including paper, microfiche, and electronic (CD-ROM,
disk, video, online). These items are arranged according to the
Superintendent of
Documents
classification system (SuDoc). For help in locating government
information, visit the Government Documents Office. For more
information, please visit the
Government
Documents Department webpage.
The lower level also houses the
Curriculum Collection (behind the Documents Office).
Bound
Periodicals
The bound
periodicals (older issues of magazines, journals and other periodicals)
begin on your left as you exit the stairwell, and continue along the back
half of the lower level.
Periodicals are arranged according to the
Dewey
Decimal Classification System. Current
issues of periodicals are kept in the
Reference
Room on the main level of the library.
Microforms
Microforms
(which include microfiche and microfilm) are to your right as you exit the
stairwell on the lower level of the library.
The
ERIC microfiche collection is located on the north wall (under the
windows) of the lower level.
Items kept on
microforms include: older issues of magazines, journals, newspapers,
documents, etc. Microform reader/printer machines are located next
to the microfiche cases on the lower level. Printing from the
machines costs 5¢ per page, and the reader/printers will accept both
change and hobo dough. One of the machines will allow you to email the
information.
For assistance with microforms, please visit
the
Government Documents Office or the
Library Services Desk.
Photocopy
machines are located next to the Government Documents Office.
